A Guide for NZDF Wāhine Toa

Military women's guide to health and readiness

Developed in response to the experiences and feedback of NZDF wāhine, Health and Readiness: A Guide for NZDF Wāhine Toa brings together practical, evidence-based information to support health, wellbeing, and readiness throughout military service.

The handbook covers a wide range of women's health topics, including menstrual health, hygiene in the field, contraception, urinary and pelvic floor health, fertility, pregnancy, menopause, health screening, and more. It also provides information on accessing Defence Health services and support available within the NZDF.

Commanders and leaders will find dedicated guidance on supporting women's health in the workplace and creating environments that promote both wellbeing and operational effectiveness.

Colleagues, partners, and whānau are also encouraged to explore the handbook to build their understanding of women's health and support informed conversations at work and at home.

Printed copies are available from your local Defence Health Centre or at Women's Health Month events (refer to the ILP for details).
